Introducing: The Unio Collection
The Unio Collection, an armchair and sofas, opens up a new chapter for Poiat Studio towards different furniture and design. It offers a view for new and upcoming, while at the same time acknowledging the past decades’ influences and nostalgia.
“This collection was born out of our Studio’s interest in studying the relationship between wood and soft furniture. From the beginning, the idea was to tell about the dimensions of seats’ properties with their form and design. The design process developed into a versatile examination of shapes and dimensions: the result satisfies our entire design team.”, says Timo Mikkonen, the co-founder and Head of Design at Poiat Studio.
“The most challenging factor in the design process was to find a design language for the furniture that adapts into many different types of spaces while still representing its own persona among other pieces of furniture. We invested a lot of time designing the proportions of the essential parts and the form. Through the wider examination, we succeeded in finding a balance between old and new. The result is timeless: the product’s visual design is balanced with some influences from the past decades.”, Mikkonen continues.
When the form and the dimensions found visual stability, the details came into the process naturally. Piping was added to emphasize the outlines of the products and wooden pedestals to achieve more support. The wooden pedestal lifts the sofa from the floor while creating a frame for the product.

The collection consists of three different sizes: a two and three-seater sofa (150 x 720 cm & 200 x 72 cm) and a single-seater armchair. The single-seater armchair can be acquired with a swivel mechanism that allows the product to rotate and revert to its original position.
The selection of upholstery fabrics for Unio Collection is a carefully curated selection of fine fabrics from the industry’s most esteemed manufacturers, such as Dedar and Pierre Frey.
